What is your education and professional background?
I hold a Master’s degree in Accounting and Control, a Diploma for Certified Public Accountant, and a Certified Internal Auditor ® (CIA®).
What is your career path?
In the distant 1995 I started working as an Accountant in ING Bank. 3 years later, the interest led me to the position of Assistant Auditor. After gaining experience and knowledge, I started an independent practice as a Certified Public Accountant. And so for 17 years. In the past 2 years I have been a co-founder and managing partner in MGI Delta.
Why did you decide to work as Auditor?
The auditing profession may seem strictly profiled and highly responsible, but for me it also offers a great variety and opportunities to learn about different business areas.
I work daily with clients from a wide range of industries, non-profit organizations, public enterprises, and others. This palette of cases keeps my interest always high.
There is another aspect that motivates me to do auditing. And that is to help make the world a better place. My choice was strongly influenced by the scandal with Enron in the USA in 2001. Enron Corporation went bankrupt due to its unethical accounting practices. Enron’s managers became greedy for profit, and the company’s accountants, Arthur Anderson, played a huge role in its collapse.
This has led to lost jobs for thousands of employees, lost pensions and the loss of confidence that many people had in the economy. Society needs ethical and extremely responsible people to prevent other similar cases.
Did your expectations fulfill in time?
Yes, they were even surpassed.
What is the most valuable thing the profession has taught you?
To be organized and high responsibility.
Do you have a hobby and how do you recharge after work?
My hobby is mountainairing. My wife and I climbed about 100 peaks with an altitude of over 2500 m in Bulgarian mountains Rila and Pirin, we also climbed the peak of Olympus – Mitika Peak, we went trekking in the Alps and Dolomites. Hiking in the mountains helps me get rid of daily stress and “recharge”.
What is your formula for success?
Success in life does not come by chance. It is the result of hard work and purposeful constant efforts to improve your skills.
